My Story

TJ Turqman has had his own teaching studio for over 10 years in the DMV area, teaching private guitar, bass, and piano lessons.

His teaching repertoire ranges from beginner to advanced levels, and is curtailed to each individual. He teaches students ranging from young children (four and up) to adults, all varying in experience and skill. Classes can include one-on-one private lessons, group classes, and multiple family members participating in lessons.

Reading music, music theory, learning songs and playing with other musicians are a few staples in the curriculum.

To say that we got lucky to find TJ as a guitar instructor would be an understatement. My son was only 5 when he started guitar lessons, and I knew the chances that a young child would stick with an instrument–and the required practice–were low. TJ’s teaching style proved perfect in our situation, however. He kept my son interested by always working on a song of his choice, while simultaneously introducing exercises to help with sight reading and music theory. He has an ability to come up with arrangements for songs that are perfectly tailored to skill level. I also believe that TJ’s easygoing nature prevented my son from shying away from lessons if he felt he had not sufficiently practiced.
